The stat that indicates why Spurs must be optimistic of progressing to the CL semifinals

Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals yesterday in what was a crucial game for both teams.

The game was the first European tie held at Tottenham’s new stadium, and the first CL quarterfinal tie Spurs have been involved in since 2011.

City came into the game as massive favorites but Pochettino’s game plan worked perfectly as Tottenham defended resolutely and restricted the visitors to very few chances.

In fact, Guardiola’s side found it difficult to deal with the intensity of Tottenham’s pressing, especially in the first half.

While Pochettino will be happy with the performance and the win, he will be aware that City are capable of turning the tie around in a matter of a few minutes.

In fact, City still go into the second leg as favorites to progress to the semifinals. However, Tottenham have a unique record in Europe that will leave their fans optimistic of progression.

Spurs have never failed to progress in the knockout rounds of European ties after having won the first leg of the tie.

So, history certainly is one Tottenham’s side ahead of the second leg.
