The stats behind Djed Spence’s latest England clean sheet show he is a must-start for Tottenham

Tottenham’s Djed Spence wrapped up his second England call-up in style, delivering a standout performance that perfectly showcased the progress he has made in recent months.

Spence’s rise has been nothing short of impressive, with the Englishman showing exactly what one can achieve when they put their head down and get to work.

Work is exactly what Spence has been doing so far this year, and he has only just begun to reap the rewards of his consistent effort and determination.

In less than three months, Spence has earned two England call-ups and represented the Three Lions on three different occasions, starting in his last two outings and steadily proving his worth to the national side.

Tottenham’s Djed Spence shines for England in Latvia win

Against Latvia, Spence ended his international break in style. The full-back played the full ninety minutes in England’s World Cup qualifier and was part of a back four that kept a clean sheet, with England cruising to a 5-0 win.

Spence was immense at full-back, and the underlying stats back up his performance. The Tottenham man was handed a 7.6 FotMob rating against Latvia.

He took one shot, managed a 93% pass accuracy by completing 74 of his 80 passes, while also making five defensive contributions.

Djed Spence was not only solid defensively but also impressive going forward, registering 106 touches in total, four of which came inside the opposition box.

The Englishman also played seven passes into the final third, won four of his seven ground duels, completed three tackles, made one clearance, one interception and three recoveries – a well-rounded display that capped off a solid international outing.

Spence determined to keep England spot

Djed Spence stated last season that it was a personal goal of his to play for England, and he has now achieved that feat.

He looks like a player determined to keep his place in the squad, and with performances like this, he could very well become one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The full-back position could be stacked for England ahead of the World Cup, with Tino Livramento, Kyle Walker, Reece James, and Trent Alexander-Arnold among those Spence will be competing with for a spot in the final squad.
