The three honest words Harry Winks used to describe recent Tottenham performance

Tottenham Hotspur may have only managed a draw at home to Watford this weekend in the Premier League, but it was sadly still a step up from their recent results.

Before the international break, Spurs were dealt a double blow in the Champions League and the Premier League, conceding 10 goals in just two games.

First, Bayern Munich gave the Lilywhites a lesson in clinical finishing as they demolished them 7-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Just days later, Spurs were given the chance to right some wrongs as they faced Brighton in the Premier League, but they were well-beaten once again on the South Coast, with the home side easily winning 3-0.

This capped off a humiliating week for Pochettino, his players, and the fans of the club, with the international break coming as bliss relief.

Harry Winks has now described that Brighton loss in three brutally honest words in an interview for the club’s matchday programme.

On the loss, he said it was (Programme Spurs vs Watford 19/10/19 – as quoted by Football London): “Unacceptable, embarrassing and painful.”

In the full interview, he said: “It’s fine margins. We went out of the Carabao Cup on a penalty shoot-out at Colchester. Win that, no-one mentions that game.

“Leicester could have been a different story. We conceded just before half-time against Bayern Munich having played so well in the first half.

“Brighton, okay, it wasn’t great to lose to a team in that manner. First of all. credit to Brighton, but we weren’t good enough on the day.

“I doubt if we’ll play like that again. It’s important we don’t allow that to happen again. It was unacceptable, embarrassing, painful.

“In many respects, that kind of performances and result wakes you up and get you back into gear.

“No-one wants to lose games, no-one wants to be in a bad run of form and we’re working hard in training to get our form back.

“A run of wins and things can quickly change, confidence starts growing and you don’t look back.

“It’s been a difficult spell in terms of results because in the last few years we’ve had so many highs but, yes, the last couple of results have been difficult.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Unfortunately Harry, that Brighton defeat did not get the team back into gear. In fact, Winks himself probably had his worst game of the season against Watford. Whatever is happening at Spurs, the embarrassing results do not seem to be waking the players up and that worries me.
