The top 5 players Spurs could realistically sign to replace Kane

Tottenham confirmed yesterday that Harry Kane is expected to be out until March after scans revealed that the striker had damaged ligaments in his left ankle during the game against Manchester United.

With Kane set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines and with Son Heung-Min currently involved in the ongoing Asia Cup, Spurs are short of option up front. So, it has been rumored that Kane’s injury might force the club to bring in a replacement this January, and Tottenham have since been linked with several strikers.

Here are the top five players Spurs could bring in this January to soften the blow of losing Kane for two months:

5) Josh Maja

A report in The Express, recently claimed that Tottenham have expressed an interest in Sunderland striker Josh Maja. The 20-year-old has caught people’s eye this season, having found the back of the net 15 times already. Maja has also reportedly rejected a fresh contract offer from Sunderland, meaning that he is looking for a move away from the North East.

Maja would be a great signing for Spurs and might be content with being Kane’s understudy once the striker returns from injury.

4) Jarrod Bowen

According to Football.London, Tottenham sent scouts to watch Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen in action this weekend. The 22-year-old winger has been one of the standout players in the Championship, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists so far this season.

Although Bowen is not an out and out striker, it is claimed that Pochettino wants to convert him into a wide-forward/striker as he is impressed with Bowen’s work rate and finishing.

3) Malcom

Tottenham were linked heavily with Brazilian winger Malcom last summer (Football London) but the winger chose to move to Barcelona instead. The 21-year-old, however, has hardly had any playing time at the Camp Now, and it has been reported that Barca are open to letting him go.

While Malcom like Bowen is not an out-and-out striker, he certainly carries a goal threat and he will also provide Spurs with yet another option in the wide areas which would allow the likes of Sonny and Moura to operate as forwards.

2) Callum Wilson

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has been linked with Tottenham for a while as it is claimed that Pochettino is a fan of the 26-year-old. The injury to Kane might finally make Spurs to push through a deal for the Englishman.

While Wilson will be a perfect signing for Tottenham owing to his ability to run down the channels and drop deep, Bournemouth will likely demand a huge price for the striker.

1) Timo Werner

The 22-year-old has been prolific since joining RB Leipzig three seasons ago and has been linked with Spurs for a few years. Werner will be the ideal choice to bring in due to his versatility.

The German has played as a lone striker, a wide forward and also as a false 9 just behind a target man, which means that he will probably get ample game time even when Kane returns.
