‘The truth is’ – Bryan Gil asked about his Tottenham future after loan move

Bryan Gil has refused to shed light on his plans at the end of the season but admitted that he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Sevilla.

Gil’s nightmare in North London came to an end when the winger returned to Sevilla on loan in January, 18 months on from making the switch to Spurs from the La Liga club.

The 22-year-old has managed to get regular football under his belt since his return to Andalusia, having scored twice and provided two assists so far (Transfermarkt).

The Tottenham man’s displays even earned him a recall to the Spain squad last month but he was forced to withdraw without kicking a ball due to an injury.

There has been a sea change at Spurs since Gil’s departure, with the club parting ways with Antonio Conte while Fabio Paratici (the director who signed him) has also exited the club.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the winger in N17 and he has now insisted that it would be disrespectful to speak about his plans at the end of his loan spell.

When asked where he sees himself playing next season, Gil told the print edition of Marca (11/05/23 as relayed by Sport Witness): “Well, I don’t know, the truth is that I am very, very happy here.

“I have been very happy to belong to this club, but I have a contract with another club [Tottenham] and I think it would be disrespectful to talk about staying here.”

Gil might wish to remain in Sevilla but I doubt if the Spanish club would be able to afford a deal for the 22-year-old.

The winger would perhaps be hoping to impress the new Tottenham head coach in pre-season and stake a claim for a place in the starting eleven.
