‘The word for me is character’ – Recent signing praises Spurs after Man Utd thrashing

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has admitted that everybody at Tottenham is working together towards the same end goal and insisted that the results prove that the team is moving in the right direction.

The midfielder, who was the club’s first signing of the summer has started all four of Tottenham’s Premier League games this campaign and has seamlessly slotted seamlessly into the team.

In fact, despite the prolific manner in which both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have started the season, it can be argued in our view that Hojbjerg has been Spurs’ best player up until this point.

The 25-year-old has put out fires time and again and shielded the back four, which is part of the reason why Jose Mourinho’s men have only conceded one goal in open play in their four league games so far.

The former Southampton midfielder’s quality on the ball was also apparent at Old Trafford as he dictated proceedings after the home side were reduced to ten men in the 6-1 demolition.

Hojbjerg also set up the away side’s fifth goal with a beautiful through ball to Serge Aurier, which the Ivorian dispatched with ease beyond David de Gea.

Speaking after the game, The Dane admitted that the players are all focused on winning every single match that they play.

He told The Evening Standard: “In the end, the result is only three points like any other win but I think mentally it is a good step and a good proof that we are heading in the right direction but we are by far not where we want to be.

“But we are on the right way and we are working hard and most importantly we are working in the same direction and that is very powerful.

“It was not just the 90 minutes on the pitch, but also it was the preparation for the game. The coaching staff prepared us really well.

“The team executed the plan and the quality in the team was produced as well so all in all a very very nice day for the club and the players.

When asked about how Spurs have been coped with playing big games in quick succession, Hojbjerg responded: “The word for me is character. It shows that there is only one thing we are going for and that is to win every single game we are playing.

“Of course you need quality and of course you need fit players but for me the character really stands out that we keep going and keep pushing and that is very nice to be part of.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have to admit that I was a little sceptical of the Hojbjerg singing as he did not strike me as someone who is particularly outstanding either in winning the ball back or at using it well.

However, he is still fairly decent at both and reads the game brilliantly. These attributes, when combined with his ruthless mentality, makes him exactly what we needed for the base of our midfield.
