Theo Walcott aims dig at Tottenham while discussing Aston Villa’s win

Theo Walcott admitted that Ollie Wakins’ match-winner against Tottenham reminded him of all the times he has got in behind Spurs’ backline during his Arsenal days.

Villa came back from a goal down to emerge 2-1 winners from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the result seeing Unai Emery’s men leapfrog Spurs into fourth place in the Premier League table.

The home side only have themselves to blame for not taking their chances although they would argue that they were a bit unlucky, with Son Heung-min having a hattrick of goals ruled out for offside while Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro both struck the woodwork.

Despite the loss, Ange Postecolgou was quite complimentary of his side’s performance in his post-match press conference, insisting that there were more positives than negatives from the game (Football.London).

Arsenal boy Theo Walcott aims a jab at Tottenham

While discussing Watkins’ winner in Match of the Day, Walcott could not help himself from aiming a dig at the Lilywhites.

The former Arsenal forward said on BBC MOTD 2 (as relayed by Sports Bible) about Villa’s second goal: “You know what I really enjoyed is just the slight sort of body movement.

“Because he has been running in behind much the whole game. He has just put Ben Davies in doubt a little bit. Ollie wants to come in, but just drops back and gives him that space, and I lived off running in behind Tottenham, so I am pretty happy.”

The host Mark Chapman immediately joked: “Woah, you have gone early there, Theo!”

Spurs Web Opinion

From the way Walcott speaks, one would think he had tremendous success against Tottenham. In actual fact, he only won five of the 19 times he came up against Spurs in the Premier League over the course of his career.
