‘There is no reason’ – Leverkusen director makes Tapsoba transfer claim amid Spurs links

Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director, Simon Rolfes, has hinted that it is going to take a big offer for the club to consider selling Edmond Tapsoba.

It has been reported for quite a while that Tapsoba is Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role, with Alasdair Gold claiming at the start of this month that Spurs see the 24-year-old as a more readymade option than Micky van de Ven (Football.London).

However, the journalist explained at the time that the Wolfsburg man is only expected to cost only around £30m while the Burkino Faso international could go for a fee as high as £50m this summer.

Fabrizio Romano revealed as recently as Monday that Taposoba still remains at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist, adding that the North London club are continuing to work on the deal to sign the Leverkusen centre-back.

Spurs face an uphill battle in Tapsoba pursuit

However, Rolfes has now made it clear that the Bundesliga club would not consider selling the Spurs target ‘under normal circumstances’.

When asked if Tapsoba could be sold, he told BuliNews: “No, not under normal circumstances. Eddy still has a long contract, so there is no reason for us to think about it. It’s not an issue.

“Given his quality, I would be surprised if there was no interest. There are always limits somewhere. But Eddy is a very important player, without a doubt one of the top players in our team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite possible that Spurs are waiting for Kane’s future to be resolved so that they have some clarity regarding the transfer budget they are working with.

If the striker does seal a move to Bayern, I get the feeling that the Lilywhites will push ahead with a move for Tapsoba.
