‘There is no way’ – Arsenal legend makes confident prediction ahead of NLD

Paul Merson has confidently claimed there is ‘no way’ Tottenham Hotspur will beat Arsenal in the North London derby this weekend.

The mood at the two North London clubs was completely different a couple of weeks ago after the Lilywhites won their first three Premier League games of the season and the Gunners lost their first three.

However, since then, Mikel Arteta’s men have picked up six points from their clashes against Norwich and Burnley while Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have fallen to two successive 3-0 losses to Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

Those results mean the pressure is now on Tottenham heading into the big game at the weekend, with Spurs knowing that a defeat at the Emirates will see their local rivals go above them in the table.

Merson insisted that he does not see Arsenal coming out on the losing side, claiming he had backed his former club to beat Spurs even when the two teams were at different ends of the table two weeks ago.

The pundit told talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast show (20/09/21 at 9:30 am): “I think it’s a big game at the weekend against Tottenham. It’s always a big game, anyway. But it becomes even bigger.

“I did a thing with Jamie (O’Hara) a couple of weeks ago about the Arsenal-Tottenham game and I had to sit there. And he absolutely rinsed me.

“He flew out today (from the talkSPORT studios). I said, even then when Arsenal had lost all three games and when Spurs had won all three games, that there is no way Arsenal will lose this football match.

“I don’t see Arsenal losing the game. There is a lot of pressure now on Tottenham. The game yesterday(against Chelsea), in the end, it was a bit like watching an Under-10’s team playing against a man’s team. It was shocking.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We never seem to do well at the Emirates even when we head into the game in good form. So, I certainly do not hold out much hope for us this weekend.

The only thing that could potentially work in our favour is the fact that the players are in a backs-to-the-wall situation and desperately need to give a response.
