‘There is nothing’ – Fabrizio Romano plays down talk over two candidates for Spurs job

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have not made contact with either Gian Piero Gasperini or Simone Inzaghi as their next potential head coach.

Gasperini has taken Atalanta from a side in the bottom of Serie A and is on course to lead the Bergamo outfit into the Champions League for a third successive season with an attractive brand of football, something which Spurs fans did not witness under former boss Jose Mourinho.

The 63-year-old recently admitted that he has not been contacted by the Premier League club over the vacancy (Daily Record).

Inzaghi, who is currently in charge of Lazio is out of contract this summer and issues have arisen over his new wage demands which has alerted both Tottenham and Leciester City, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

Romano has played down the speculation of either man potentially succeeding Mourinho, who himself will be heading to Italy next season to take charge of Roma.

He told The Here We Go Podcast: “Gasperini was honest when he said there is nothing with Tottenham because he never received a call from Tottenham. So, at the moment, there is absolutely nothing.

“With Simone Inzaghi, at the moment, nothing serious or nothing advanced. Let’s see what Tottenham will decide. In some days, they will make their decision. But at the moment there is nothing with Gasperini or Simone Inzaghi.”
