‘There was a talk’ – Spurs-linked Antonio Rudiger speaks on contract situation

Antonio Rudiger, who is alleged to be on Tottenham’s radar amidst his contract stand-off with Chelsea, has now spoken about his future.

Rudiger’s current contract runs out next summer and Chelsea have been unable to reach an agreement with him over a new deal so far.

There has been plenty of speculation linking Spurs with a move for the German over recent weeks.

The Express claimed at the start of October that Spurs were monitoring Rudiger’s contract situation while Gianluca Di Marzio claimed two weeks ago that Tottenham were one of four clubs who were in talks with the central defender.

The Athletic revealed last week that Chelsea’s offer of around £140,000 a week does not satisfy the former Roma man, who is thought to be demanding a salary of £200,000 a week.

It was explained that neither parties are willing to change their stance and that the centre-back is waiting to see what other clubs are prepared to offer him.

Rudiger has now decided to keep his cards close to his chest, admitting that his agent has had conversations with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia.

He told The Metro: “About the contract situation, I talk with the club. This is for nobody’s ears. It was how I said it would be after the Euros – there would be talks.

“There was a talk between Marina and my agent. We have the situation where we are at now and I have nothing to do with all the speculation.

“This is not in my mind. I’m focused on what I’m doing because this is why I wake up every morning.”

While Rudiger now looks unlikely to stay at Chelsea, I do not believe there is any chance of Spurs swooping for him. I cannot see the German international being open to a move across London, particularly when he is likely to have plenty of offers to choose from.
