‘There was some contact’ – Alessandro Bastoni directly addresses Spurs links

Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni has admitted that contact was made with regard to a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, but the youngster insists he is happy in Italy (via Fabrizio Romano and CalcioMercatoWeb).

Bastoni came through the ranks at Atalanta before making the move to Inter in 2017, and has now made 134 appearances for the Serie A giants (Transfermarkt). Despite being just 23 years old, Bastoni is firmly one of the most established and important players for Inter Milan now.

The impressive centre-half also has 17 caps at international level (Transfermarkt) and is deemed a key part of the Italy set-up for the future.

Spurs have long held an interest in Bastoni, who was a primary target during the summer, but no move materialised at that time (Football.London). However, there is still believed to be some desire on Tottenham’s part to bring Bastoni to the club (Alasdair Gold).

Italian outlet CalcioMercatoWeb claim Spurs may make a bid for Bastoni in the impending January transfer window. It has even been suggested that Inter may be willing to let Bastoni leave if a sizeable offer is made by Tottenham (Tuttosport 25/11/12 – relayed by FCInterNews and Sport Witness).

It may not matter, though, as Fabrizio Romano shared a quote from the man himself on the subject of a transfer to Spurs from a recent interview.

Bastoni said: “There was some contact with Tottenham last summer, it’s true but I’m happy with my choice. I’m happy here at Inter.”

It sounds like Bastoni doesn’t see his future at Tottenham, and he also suggested one of his teammates should stay put, too. He said: “I hope Milan Škriniar will stay here too.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Every time we hear anything from Bastoni, it just sounds like he has absolutely no intention of leaving Inter Milan any time soon. He’s a young lad who is clearly very comfortable where he is, and I just hope we’re not wasting our time tracking him when there are other options out there who would be more willing to come to Spurs.
