‘There will be interest there’ – Alasdair Gold delivers update on Spurs’ pursuit of defender

Alasdair Gold believes there is truth to the rumours linking Tottenham with a move for Chelsea centre half Kurt Zouma.

After an impressive season on loan at Everton during the last campaign, Zouma has himself playing more frequently at Stamford Bridge this season but the Frenchman is still not Frank Lampard’s first-choice at centre-half.

RMC Sport reported last week that Jose Mourinho was keen on reuniting with the powerful defender, who he brought to Chelsea from Saint-Etienne back in 2014.

The Daily Star revealed that Chelsea will be open to selling the defender as they have to sell players to help balance out the cost of new signings.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now claimed that the Spurs boss will be keen on signing the 25-year-old but suggested that the Blues’ unwillingness to sell to Tottenham could be a stumbling block in the transfer.

When asked about Spurs’ move for Zouma, he said: “There will be interest there. Mourinho signed him for Chelsea and will know him inside out and at 25 there’s plenty to work with when it comes to Zouma.

“However, for me, with three years left on his deal and Chelsea not likely to be desperate to deal with Spurs, any fee would be massive and something Tottenham would struggle with this year.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Like Gold, I doubt Chelsea will want to sell to us even if they were willing to let Zouma leave this summer. I think he can potentially be a great squad player for us and his areal prowess could be a useful option to have in some matches but I do not see us being able to complete a deal for the Frenchman.
