‘There won’t be a 50 per cent discount’ – European giant issues warning over three Spurs-linked players

Ajax chief executive officer Edwin van der Sar has told interested parties that they cannot expect to sign Andre Onana, Nicolas Tagliafico or Donny Van de Beek on a cut-price deal this summer.

All three players have been linked with a move to Tottenham within the last six months (Mirror / Football London / El Intransigente) with speculating surrounding Onana having particularly intensified in recent weeks.

Reports have also suggested that Jose Mourinho wants to bring in a new goalkeeper to compete with Hugo Lloris for the number one spot, with Onana said to be interesting the Lillywhites (Daily Mail).

Spurs are expected to be in the market for a left-back with Danny Rose likely to leave the club permanently in the summer (Football.London) and Tagliafico is one of the options the club are said to be monitoring as a replacement (The Sun).

Van de Beek was said to be one of the players on Tottenham’s radar in January as they looked to bring in a replacement for Christian Eriksen (Football.London) but the 22-year-old ended up staying put in Amsterdam.

Van der Sar ruled out the possibility of the Eredivisie champions selling any of these players for less than their market valuation.

Speaking to Reuters, the former Manchester United goalkeeper said: “In January last year, people said we were going to lose seven or eight players but we lost only two key members

“The big clubs such as Bayern Munich have said the benchmark fee will go down in the next few transfer windows. But it’s easier for them to say because they are the buyers.

“Last year, we made verbal agreements with Onana, Tagliafico, Van de Beek to stay another season and then we look to help each other and find the next step in their careers. Nothing has changed.

“There won’t be a 50 per cent discount. The clubs can forget about that.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t think this really affects us as it is clear that neither Van de Beek nor Tagliafico are on our radar anymore. While links with Onana have persisted, I highly doubt if the club will enter the market for a potential number one this season given the other areas of the squad that need addressing.
