Glenn Hoddle claims Nuno may have to have sit-down talk with Spurs star

Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Harry Kane is lacking in motivation and energy after the striker put in another poor performance in the North London Derby on Sunday.

Kane has had a lacklustre start to the season following his failed move to Manchester City during the summer transfer window.

The England captain came in for some scathing criticism for his performance against Chelsea last week but it looked as though he might have turned a corner after putting in an impressive display in the Carabao Cup against Wolves in midweek.

However, Kane once again looked sluggish in the derby on Sunday as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men were comfortably beaten by their local rivals.

Hoddle has said it is evident that Kane has still not got over what happened during the summer. The legendary Spurs midfielder insisted the situation is out of Nuno’s hands and that only Kane himself can put things right.

Hoddle told Premier League Productions (26/09/21 at 4pm start): “Harry Kane is just not at it. There’s no hiding behind it.

“Harry’s a fantastic player and he’s got to get himself back. If Spurs are to get into some good form, then he has to get his energy back.

“He has got to get his enthusiasm back. He is staying. The move didn’t happen, so you have to get on with it.

“It still looks, to me, that he is smouldering a little bit. There is no zip to his game. You don’t manage it. It has to come from him. No one, Nuno or the staff are going to bring that out of him.

“They might sit him down and have a one-on-one chat with him. But he has to look at himself in the mirror – he has to hurt himself physically a lot more in pushing himself.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I was hoping that Kane’s performance against Wolves would be the turning point that kickstarts his season and I was fairly optimistic heading into Sunday, especially given Kane’s excellent record in North London derbies.

However, his body language and performance was once again poor and it is now starting to look like the club might have made mistake by not cashing in on him during the summer.
