“These players won’t take them to the title” – Pundit names four players Spurs need to upgrade on

Tottenham will reportedly invest heavily into their first team squad this summer, after two windows of complete inactivity (Daily Mail).

Spurs are said to be seeking reinforcements in several positions but one area where they are particularly short of numbers is in the central midfield area.

Due to the departure of Mousa Dembele in January, and injury layoffs to Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama, Mauricio Pochettino has had to rely on a pairing of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko on most occasions this season.

Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchison has said that Pochettino needs to bring in world-class central midfielders in order to be able to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City.

The pundit insisted that while he rates the likes of Dier, Sissoko, Winks and Oliver Skipp, none of those players are good enough to help the club sustain a title challenge, and suggested that the club needed to sign PSG’s Adrien Rabiot.

The 47-year-old told BBC Radio 5 Live on (06/05/2019 at 8:40 pm): “If that rumour about Christian Eriksen going to Real Madrid is true..They have already lost Dembele.

“Eric Dier’s not going to take them close to a title. Sissoko’s had a brilliant season, but he’s not going to take them close to a title.

“Investment needed, in my opinion, in the middle of the park – Rabiot would be a good signing on a free transfer from PSG.- What a player he is, by the way. Many top clubs would take him on a free if you’re not paying a fee for him.

“I like the players he has got. I like Harry Winks, I like Olivier Skipp, I like Sissoko and Eric Dier. But these are not players, when you look at what Liverpool or Man City are doing, that are going to take you to a title.”

There is no doubt that Tottenham need upgrades in central midfield and Rabiot could be a possibility given the relationship between PSG and Tottenham.

While we believe Rabiot would be a perfect replacement for Mousa Dembele, there have been rumours of an attitude problem with the 24-year-old.

Tottenham are also said to be pursuing Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele (Le10 Sport), who could prove a more valuable addition to the squad than Rabiot although he is likely to be extremely expensive.
