‘They are close’ – Report claims there is belief Spurs can sign Luis Diaz

Tottenham Hotspur could be close to a deal for Porto winger Luis Diaz, according to The Independent.

The report claims that sources believe that a deal can be reached for the Colombian international with Tottenham prepared to offer €45m (£37.6m) together with significant payments based on add-ons, while the Portuguese outfit are holding out for €60m (£50.2m).

Diaz’s current contract has a transfer release clause of €80m (£66.8m) with there being a belief that an agreement could be on the horizon.

The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals in 18 league games this season and has been monitored by a number of Premier League clubs, having been linked with a move to Manchester United (Guardian).

Diaz impressed at last summer’s Copa America, where he helped Colombia to third place and finished as the tournament’s joint top-scorer alongside Lionel Messi with four goals to his name.

Tottenham fans have been in this position many times in the past where we have been linked with big-name signings shortly before the transfer window was set to close, only to have been left disappointed by Daniel Levy’s reluctance to get a deal over the line.

Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala are just two names that come to mind who send fans into overdrive and were left empty-handed.
