‘They are exploring’ – Journalist claims 23-year-old is not a priority for Tottenham

Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are merely exploring a deal for Nicolo Zaniolo but the AS Roma winger is not a priority for Antonio Conte’s men this summer.

90 min reported earlier this week that Roma had rejected Tottenham’s offer to sign Nicolo Zaniolo and the Serie A club are unhappy with the fee the North London club offered.

The report claimed that Tottenham’s opening offer for the 23-year-old was a loan with an obligation to buy for €25m (£21m) plus a further €10m (£8.4m) in add-ons.

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (09/08/22 – via Sport Witness) claimed on Tuesday that there was still a big distance between what Spurs were willing to offer for the 23-year-old and what Roma were demanding.

The report asserted that the Giallorossi want €60m (£50.7m) in total for the Italy international, including the loan fee.

Jones believes Tottenham will not pay exorbitant amounts to sign Zaniolo and will only make a move for the right price.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Zaniolo is still one there. I’d say they’re exploring rather than really prioritising at this point. They would like him, but certain conditions have to be met, and I’m not sure Tottenham are going to meet all of them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have seemingly been testing the waters to see what fee Roma would accept for Zaniolo. I suspect that we will make a decent offer before the transfer window closes to test the Serie A side’s resolve but I doubt if the bid would reach over £40m.
