‘They are frightening’ – Arsenal legend reveals jealousy at Spurs’ transfer business

On the ‘Wrighty’s Corner’ section of the Ringer FC Podcast, Ian Wright has claimed that Tottenham will ’cause problems’ next season.

Spurs have been fast and furious thus far in the transfer market. Free transfers Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster were the first to arrive through the door, followed by Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma and Everton forward Richarlison more recently (Football.London).

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that centre-back Clement Lenglet has completed a loan move to Spurs, whilst The Telegraph report that the Lilywhites are ready to splash £15 million to land wing-back Djed Spence.

Football.London claim that even if these two targets are secured in the coming days, Antonio Conte may still be surveying the market for further incomings.

Wright spoke of his worry at watching his rival club strengthen their side so methodically. He said: “I feel Tottenham are going to cause problems.

“You can’t not be jealous of that summer, especially coming from the other side of north London.

“They are frightening man. Everything we are doing at Arsenal, and I am putting on as my armour. But we have done this. We have Vieira. We have two number 10’s now. And we are still trying for Tielemans. And we have Gabriel Jesus.

“So, you are trying to arm yourself because the Tottenham fans are saying ‘well, we kind of have Bissouma now, Richarlison, Kane, then Bentancur is going to kick in and we have seen what Romero is about’.

“When you look at how Tottenham can flex when they are doing it under this manager, it kind of makes me feel ______.”

Antonio Conte’s side were able to edge out Mikel Arteta and co to secure a top four finish last season and a place in the Champions League (SI Soccer).

Spurs Web Opinion

Whilst it is always satisfying to see an Arsenal legend concerned about the strength of Spurs, I am trying not to get carried away just yet.

I think the promptness of our business will work in our favour and we will see a squad that is both physically and tactically ready to go when we lineup against Southampton for our season opener in August.
