‘They are the best in the world’ – Departed Spurs star showers the club in praise

Toby Alderweireld has described the facilities and environment at Tottenham Hotspur as the best in the world.

Alderweireld departed Spurs during the summer, completing a move to Qatari side Al-Duhail.  The central defender spent six years at the North London club after joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015.

The Belgian international was a crucial part of the club’s rise under Mauricio Pochettino and gave his best years to the Lilywhites.

Despite not having any silverware to show for his efforts at Spurs, he was part of the best Tottenham team in a generation and helped the club to reach new heights in the Premier League, while even reaching the Champions League final.

The defender remains a fan favourite among the Spurs faithful and returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a special guest last month to watch the Lilywhites in action against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.

Alderweireld has now spoken fondly of his time in North London, admitting that he was ‘spoilt’ by the treatment he had at his former club.

When asked about the environment and facilities at Al-Duhail, the defender told the Qatari club’s Instagram account: “I come from the top, top league in the world.

“For example, Spurs, they are the best in the world, so I was a little bit spoilt in that manner.”

Spurs Web Opinion

That Spurs team under Pochettino which Toby was part of, was by far the most likeable Tottenham side in my two decades as a fan. It is a shame that the likes of Toby, Jan, Mousa, Eriksen, Lamela, Rose and co do not have any trophies to show for their efforts.
