‘They are the only club’ – Gary Neville predicts high Premier League finish for Spurs

The list of pundits and former players backing Spurs for success this season is growing by the day, with Gary Neville the latest to predict a top-three finish for the North London club.

Neville is the third Manchester United legend to praise Spurs in the last week. Roy Keane tipped the Lilywhites to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool (ITV 30/07/2022 – 4:55 pm) and Rio Ferdinand is backing Spurs to finish third (Mirror Football).

Even former Arsenal players have admitted Spurs are set for a strong season. Ray Parlour told Sky Sports Tottenham are “looking good” ahead of the new campaign, and Ian Wright predicts Spurs will secure a top-four finish again (ITV 30/07/2022 – 4:55 pm).

After a fantastic summer transfer window, with six new recruits adding depth and quality to an already strong squad, many expect Antonio Conte to take Spurs to the next level and start to challenge the established top two in the English top flight.

Gary Neville revealed on The Overlap that Tottenham Hotspur could even go one better, and sneak into the top two this year, if things don’t go to plan for Liverpool.

He said: “I have got Spurs finishing third in my head because of Perisic, Bissouma, and Richarlison. They have added to what they have already got.

“They won’t finish above Liverpool, but they could. If Liverpool just somehow wobble, and get an injury to a Van Dijk, then Tottenham could (finish second). They are the only club, I think, that potentially, and it’s a high risk with Liverpool, could get there.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We really are in unfamiliar territory here, aren’t we? Spurs fans are far more accustomed to seeing their side get criticised by pundits, so to see all these names backing the club to really challenge at the top this season is a strange feeling.

That is the Antonio Conte effect in play, one would assume. With the shrewd transfer business this summer and a full pre-season for the players to really adapt to what the Italian wants from them, Spurs should be set for an exciting season. Let’s hope the pundits are right!
