‘They have a fantastic squad’ – Guardiola makes claim about Spurs’ title hopes

Pep Guardiola has claimed ahead of Manchester City’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today that he expects Spurs to push for the Premier League title this season.

Some have suggested the clash against Manchester City will be a test of Spurs’ title credentials but Jose Mourinho has insisted in his pre-match press conference that the game does not mean anything more than the three points on offer.

Tottenham currently sit a point behind league-leaders Leicester and a win against City will take them to the top of the table.

The Spurs boss has previously remained coy when asked whether his team can win the title this season, insisting that they are focused on taking it one game at a time.

However, Guardiola certainly believes that the North Londoners have the squad to go all the way this season.

When asked if Tottenham are potential title contenders, the Spaniard, who penned a new two-year deal at the Etihad Stadium earlier this week, told The Mirror: “The numbers speak for themselves.

“They dropped points against Newcastle and West Ham in the last minute, so they could have four more points.

“They are contenders, the quality they’ve got is always there.

“They were in the final of the Champions League, they’ve been exceptional for four or five years, they have a fantastic squad.”
