‘They need to sell’ – Trippier text conversation with friend before Spurs exit revealed

The Daily Mail have revealed that Kieran Trippier told a friend to ‘lump on’ him joining Atletico Madrid from Tottenham in the summer of 2019.

Two weeks ago, Trippier was handed a ten-week ban from football after being found guilty of breaking the Football Association’s betting rules.

The charges were first levelled against the defender back in May of last year amid concerns over bets placed regarding his move to Atletico.

The former Tottenham man has denied any wrongdoing and it was reported that he was a victim of friends, unbeknown to him, placing bets on the basis of information that he had passed on in private.

However, it has now emerged that the right-back himself gave the green light to his friends to place their bets once he knew that his move to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium was likely to go ahead.

The Mail have revealed the conversations that the England international had with his friends, the details of which were publicised following the FA’s investigation.

When asked by a friend whether he should place a bet on his impending move to Spain, Trippier responded: “Can do mate. Don’t blame me if something goes wrong. It shouldn’t but just letting you know” and then followed that up with “Lump on if you want mate”.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Trippier certainly should have known better than this as one would imagine that the players are fully aware of the consequences of these types of actions. These messages suggest that the ten-week ban for the right-back is completely warranted. In fact, one can argue that the FA have let him off easy.
