“They would like to add him to their squad this summer” – Spurs star is a target for Spanish giant

Respected Spanish football journalist Graham Hunter believes that Christian Eriksen will be high up on Real Madrid’s shopping list this summer.

The Dane is out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur in 18 months time and has yet to agree an extension.

Hunter believes Spurs may find it difficult to keep hold of the 26-year-old due to his contract situation which will give chairman Daniel Levy limited powers with his tough negotiating style.

Mauricio Pochettino was asked at yesterday’s press conference about Eriksen’s future and he suggested that the player could sign ‘next week’ or in ‘six months’ but ultimately it was more important for the club to give him enough space and time to make his own decision.

Eriksen is believed to earn £75,000 a week on the four-year contract he signed in September 2016 and any new deal would, at least, bring him in line with Dele Alli, who agreed a £150,000-a-week deal in October (Standard). However, the Spanish giants would be able to offer him significantly more due to their track record of paying big wages.

Hunter told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast: “There is no question whatsoever that Real Madrid see Christian Eriksen as the perfect signing,”

“They would like to add him to their squad this summer.

“I think everybody respects the way that (Tottenham chairman) Daniel Levy conducts his transfer negotiations, but the power is always with the player and the buying club when a contract is running down in the way that Eriksen’s contract is at Tottenham.
