‘They’ll do a deal on the wages’ – Pundit comments on Coutinho to Spurs rumours

Alex Bruce has become the latest pundit to call for Tottenham to push ahead with a loan move for Phillipe Coutinho.

There have been plenty of rumours doing the rounds on Tottenham’s pursuit of Coutinho with recent reports suggesting that that Barcelona have offered the Lilywhites the option to sign him on loan.

Spurs are said be ready to pay a multi-million-pound loan fee to take the 27-year-old but there is no suggestion as to whether the deal would include an option to buy clause.

Former Leeds United striker, Noel Whelan, insisted that a move to the Premier League is just what Coutinho needs to get back to his best and urged the Lilywhites to bring him back to England.

Bruce has now echoed Whelan’s sentiments and believes that the former Liverpool star would be a great signing for the North Londoners.

When asked about whether Spurs should sign Coutinho, Bruce told Football Insider: “Well it would be a great signing, wouldn’t it? He’s been in the Premier League before and had a huge impact with Liverpool and obviously, if he comes back to the Premier League, Spurs will be hoping he has a similar impact.

“With the loans, they’ll do a deal on the wages but clubs will need to get players off wage bills and things like that so I think the loan market will be very active.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Barcelona are clearly desperate to get Coutinho off their wage bill but I cannot see Daniel Levy agreeing to match the £200,000 a week wage he is currently earning at the Catalan giants. The Barca star will likely have to agree to take a wage cut if he is going to come to Spurs, or the Spanish club will have to pay a percentage.
