‘They’re just bonkers’ – Lawro predicts score for Southampton vs Tottenham

Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur may now put a run of good results together since they do not have the distraction of European football to contend with.

Spurs’ trophy drought will now extend into its sixteenth year after the Lilywhties were eliminated from the FA Cup and the Champions League in quick succession.

That means that Antonio Conte’s men now only have a top-four finish to play for until the end of the season and Harry Kane admitted last week that merely qualifying for the Champions League cannot be considered a success for the Lilywhites any longer (Evening Standard).

However, there is no doubt that getting into Europe’s Premier League club competition remains crucial for the Lilywhites as it will add to their transfer kitty and also help attract top players to the club in the summer.

Spurs have a chance to tighten their grip on a top-four spot with a win at St Mary’s on Saturday, and Lawrenson believes that the Lilywhites will get the job done.

He told Paddy Power: “Southampton had another bad result during the week but you just can’t predict anything with any certainty for Tottenham.

“They’re just bonkers. But maybe they’ll have a little bit of a run in the league with no European football to worry about anymore.”

Prediction: Southampton 0-2 Tottenham.
