Thierry Henry aims brutal dig at Spurs at FIFA Best Awards

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry could not resist a dig at Tottenham Hotspur during his appearance at the FIFA Best Awards.

The ceremony took place in London, with many of the biggest names in the sport gathering for the annual showpiece event.

Lionel Messi took home the big prize, being named the best men’s player across the world in 2023.

However, the Argentine could not make it to London, with his former Barcelona teammate, Henry, collecting the award on behalf of the 36-year-old.

While stepping on stage to collect the award, the Frenchman decided to take aim at Tottenham fan Reshmin Chowdhury, who was the presenter at the event, with the former Gunners star poking fun at the Lilywhites’ lack of silverware over recent years.

Tottenham always get a mention on the biggest stage

Henry said at the ceremony (via The Mirror): “Unfortunately the winner is not here, so someone is going to have to take the trophy. I will take it. I mean I came.

“I actually have two reasons for taking it. I never won it, so I’ll keep it. And you are a Tottenham fan right? You usually don’t get your hands on a trophy, so I’ll take this one. Thank you very much.”

As one would expect at a London event, Henry’s statement was met with loud laughter and a round of applause from the crowd at the venue.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think any Spurs fan gets annoyed at the Tottenham trophy joke any longer but one would think the likes of Henry would be cognisant of how unoriginal it comes across as.
