Thierry Henry shocked by Jermain Defoe’s PL top four prediction for Spurs

Jermain Defoe backed Tottenham Hotspur to finish in the top four, much to the shock of Thierry Henry

Heading into Gameweek 20, Spurs sit a point behind the guaranteed Champions League spots following their loss at the Amex Stadium.

While fifth place could be enough for a place in the Champions League next season, depending on how the English teams perform in the three European competitions, Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that the Lilywhites will target a top-four finish (Football.London).

The Australian will be hoping that his side can remain in touching distance of the top teams until his side are boosted by the return of the likes of James Maddison, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Will Tottenham finish in the top four this season?

Despite Tottenham’s slip-up against the Segulls, Defoe believes that his former side have enough about them to squeeze into the top four, but the prediction left Henry quite surprised.

When asked to name his top four, Defoe told Amazon Prime Video Sport: “Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, then Arsenal”, to which a shocked Henry responded: “What! What did you say? Tottenham?”

If Defoe was predicting the top four in order, then it is perhaps a case of the former Spurs man listening to his heart over his head.

However, it is certainly not as fanciful as Henry seems to think. The Gunners currently sit just four points above Tottenham and it is worth remembering that last season was the first time in seven years that they actually finished above us.
