‘This guy is an animal’ – Gollini reveals why recent signing is ‘perfect’ for PL

Italian international Pierluigi Gollini has been speaking about his Tottenham teammate Christian Romero this week, claiming he is ‘perfect’ for the Premier League.

Gollini also played with Romero for Italian side Atalanta and both players joined during the summer on loan deals that are expected to become permanent next year.

Romero was named Serie A’s Defender of the Year last season beating the likes of Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt to the prestigious award.

Romero was also a key part of Argentina’s Copa America triumph during the summer, keeping a clean sheet in every match he played in.

Both Romero and Gollini kept a clean sheet at Anfield last season in a famous night for Atalanta in the Champions League where they ran out 2-0 winners against Liverpool.

Gollini added that Romero will need time to adapt to the Premier League but he is sure the Argentinian centre-back will be a hit.

He told Football.London: “He’s learning the Premier League but he already knows the game. So he’ll be fine and very good.

“This guy is an animal, I swear. He’s perfect for the Premier League. He’s played for many years with three at the back and especially when you play with a very aggressive style and play man for man, it’s a completely different thing to in a four.

“You have to work and defend more like a group, a group of four and defend more the zone and less the man. So he needs to adjust and he will do it because he’s a clever guy and an amazing player.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

There is indeed reason to be excited about Christian Romero. Even though Tottenham did concede three against Chelsea last weekend, Romero went toe to toe with Lukaku and kept the Belgian quiet for the majority of the match. At just 23, he plays like he has been in the game for many years. An exciting prospect.
