Ledley King believes that Tottenham are a much harder team to beat under Harry Redknapp.

The central defender scored the opening goal in Tottenham’s 2-1 win at Portsmouth on Saturday to continue their impressive start to the new campaign.

“This is a result we probably wouldn’t have got in previous years,” said King.

“It shows the resilience we now have. There’s more steel in our squad these days.

“Last season we were looking at the results of the teams battling to stay up. Now we’re celebrating when Chelsea and Liverpool lose. It’s a lot nicer.

“It was backs to the wall stuff when we were down to 10 men, but we hung in there as a team and our keeper pulled off some great saves.

“After the start we had last season, we knew it was important to do a lot better this time.

“Now we’re up there challenging at the top and I’m delighted.”
