Thomas Frank already thinks he can improve one Tottenham star next season

Mathys Tel has become Tottenham’s first signing of the Thomas Frank era, and Alasdair Gold reveals why the new Spurs head coach is very excited about working with the Frenchman.

On Sunday, Tottenham confirmed that they had reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for Tel’s permanent transfer on the back of the 20-year-old’s loan spell at the club.

Tel has signed a six-year contract with Spurs, which indicates that the North London club are optimistic about his potential.

It has now been revealed what input the new Tottenham head coach had on the deal and what he feels about working with the France Under-21 international.

Thomas Frank believes Mathys Tel can improve under him at Tottenham

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now said that Frank studied the forward closely and felt that it would be the right move for Tottenham to make.

The 51-year-old is thought to be excited by the prospect of working with Tel and believes that he can improve the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, there is also said to be a feeling at Spurs that Tel is more suited to Frank’s system than he was to Ange Postecoglou.

This is because the Danish coach gives his wide players more freedom to come inside and link up play, which many think will suit the youngster’s strengths.

Gold says that under Frank, Tel will be used in either flank or as a supporting striker in a two-man attack, with the former Bayern man seen as someone who has the energy and physicality that the new Tottenham boss demands from his attackers.

What feeling at Tottenham is about Tel’s arrival

Gold says that among the Tottenham decision-makers, there are ‘high hopes’ for Tel’s development under Frank, with some believing that he can be a key player for the side next season.

The journalist points out that the youngster’s experience of Champions League football was also a factor in Tottenham’s decision ahead of the club’s return to Europe’s premier club tournament after a two-year absence.

It was reported by TEAMtalk a few days ago that Tel was also very keen on returning to Spurs, having enjoyed his time in London and expressing a desire to be part of the project at N17.
