Thomas Frank comments are bad news for Tottenham fans who want to see Dejan Kulusevski back this month

Thomas Frank has reflected on Dejan Kulusevski’s importance to his Tottenham side as the Swede edges back to full fitness.

Thomas Frank is struggling for options in attack at the moment, with the club’s three long-term injury absentees joined on the sidelines by Mohammed Kudus, whose injury is reportedly worse than initially feared.

With Brennan Johnson no longer at N17, it means that the Dane has hardly any options to rotate up front, even though games are now coming thick and fast.

It was previously reported that Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke could both return to action this month.

Thomas Frank admits Dejan Kulusevski is a ‘key player’ for Tottenham

While Frank has confirmed that Solanke could be back sooner rather than later, there has been no update on the Swede’s recovery.

The former Juventus man’s return would certainly help the Lilywhites cope with the loss of Kudus, but Frank has now revealed that the 25-year-old’s recovery is proving ‘tricky’.

When asked about Kulusevski, the Tottenham boss said (via Football.London): “He is a key player, and I would love to have him back soon. Unfortunately, it was a tricky injury he got, so it just takes time. They are working very hard, and he is working very hard to come back on the pitch.”

Why Spurs fans should not expect Kulusevski to save their season

Many Tottenham supporters may be holding out hope that the return of Kulusevski may go a long way towards fixing the club’s creative issues and transforming Spurs’ attack.

However, the reality is that it is going to take time for the Swede to get fully upto speed, given how long he has been out for.

We may not see the best of Kulusevski until the final five or 10 games of the season, even if he returns to action in early February.
