Thomas Frank explains why Wilson Odobert will come good for Tottenham

Wilson Odobert has been in and out of the Tottenham XI but Thomas Frank’s latest comments suggest he has the full support of his manager.

Wilson Odobert picked up an injury soon after making the switch from Burnley to Tottenham Hotspur and it seemed he might not have much of a role to play in North London.

However, the 21-year-old has already made more Premier League appearances this campaign than he did last season.

Odobert has made 21 competitive appearances so far under Thomas Frank, indicating the Spurs boss is pleased with the way the winger is developing at the club.

Thomas Frank heaps praise on Wilson Odobert

Frank has made it clear that Odobert has his full backing and with how often he has played for Tottenham this season, this should not come as a surprise.

During a recent press conference, a reporter noted Odobert’s potential and talent, but claimed there were moments during matches when he was not as strong. The example given was how the left winger was outpaced by Jordan Henderson when he side faced Brentford.

When asked what Odobert must do to reach his potential, Frank replied: “I think take the positive away from the Crystal Palace substitution role, where he was so lively and they couldn’t catch him and should have scored at least a goal.

“And then last night, I think there was still some very positive glimpses. And I think he is in the situation where he takes a little bit better decision when there’s, let’s say, three times the touch, because even if he’s taken it, that will just get him in a top position as soon as it’s turned and we’re three vs three, instead of it’s a bad touch and then we go the other way, for example.

“So just keep learning that. That’s just a normal part of football. Unfortunately, there’s a little bit of extra focus in the Premier League, but hey, that’s part of it.

“Wilson (Odobert), I’ve said it many times, is a very promising player that I believe a lot in. He looked so lively against Crystal Palace, but also natural with a young player, [that] he was a little bit up and down yesterday.I’m convinced he’ll be very good for us.”

Brennan Johnson’s Tottenham departure proves Frank believes in Odobert

Thomas Frank was one of two people behind Brennan Johnson’s Spurs exit and this is a clear sign that he trusts in Odobert.

Johnson was the only natural winger competing with Odobert for the left sided position in attack and his departure means the France under-21s international must be considered in high regard.

However, Tottenham could still sign a new player to start out wide before the conclusion of the January transfer window, so Odobert needs to be perfoming at a consistent level.
