Thomas Frank gives his honest review of Randal Kolo Muani after positive Tottenham cameo

Tottenham may have lost against Aston Villa and drawn away to Monaco, but Thomas Frank has taken one big positive thanks to Randal Kolo Muani.

The criticism of Frank’s conservative approach and Tottenham’s lack of creativity has only been amplified after the club’s performance away at Monaco.

It was Spurs’ first goalless draw in two-and-a-half years, with the club last playing out a 0-0 result back in March of 2023 under Antonio Conte.

On the balance of play, the Lilywhites were lucky to come away with the draw, with Guglielmo Vicario’s heroics in goal saving Tottenham’s blushes against Monaco.

Thomas Frank speaks on Randal Kolo Muani’s return for Tottenham

While there are not too many positives for Spurs to take from their last two matches, fans did get to see Kolo Muani in action as a substitute in both games.

The Frenchman has now made his Premier League and Champions League debuts for the Lilywhites, and Frank admitted that he is delighted to have the 26-year-old available.

When asked if Kolo Muani can make it back into the France national team, the Tottenham boss said (via the club’s official website): “First and foremost, I think it was very nice to have him back in the Champions League, I’m sure he appreciates it as well.

“We were very happy that we managed to sign him in the end of the transfer window. He was unlucky to pick up a dead leg early, that’s kept him out of the games so far, but now he’s been training well for some weeks and got minutes in the week against Villa, more today.

“I think he looked for some promising actions today. Of course, he would like a little bit more rhythm, but I like him a lot in many aspects. I think for any player to come into any national team, and the French is a very strong national team, you need to play more games, and hopefully he will do that.”

Why Spurs desperately needed Kolo Muani back

Richarlison has come in for plenty of criticism over recent weeks, with the Brazilian’s performances tailing off completely after a decent start to the season.

Meanwhile, many have suggested that Mathys Tel is not good enough to lead the line for Tottenham at this stage of his career.

One can thus understand why Frank is happy to have another option to turn to, and the Spurs head coach will be hoping that Dominic Solanke is also back sooner rather than later.
