Thomas Frank insists everyone at Tottenham is ‘ambitious’ despite January transfers

Thomas Frank has dismissed suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur have shown a lack of ambition in the January transfer window.

After the change in leadership at Tottenham, it was widely reported over recent months that the Lewis family are keen to kick-start a new era at Spurs, where on-pitch success would be prioritised.

It was even suggested ahead of the January window that Thomas Frank would be given a huge £150m war chest to rebuild the Tottenham squad mid-season.

However, Conor Gallagher and Souza were the only two senior players to arrive through the door at Hotspur Way, with Spurs having a net spend of just £12m in January.

Thomas Frank insists everyone at Spurs wants to win

Many Tottenham fans were fuming at the lack of urgency shown by the club in January, especially given the current injury crisis at N17.

However, Frank has now railed against the claim that the club are lacking in ambition, insisting that everyone at Hotspur Way is committed to building a winning team.

The Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “Everyone here is ambitious. Everyone wants to win. Everyone wants to make sure we do the best in the league and we have a good opportunity in the Champions League that we need to hunt for everything we can.

“We’ve had some good performances, better, and in how they are running when they are behind, I see a team that is fighting, players fighting, and that’s a big thing.”

Frank compares Tottenham transfer business with rivals

A few days ago, Johan Lange pointed out that it was an unusually quiet January window across Europe, and suggested that there was a shortage of the quality of players that Tottenham were looking for.

Frank has now made a similar point, comparing Spurs’ business favourably with many of their rivals’.

He added: “In the summer, we made two good signings in Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, and a good loan in Joao Palhinha so it’s not as though we don’t want to loan players to strengthen the squad.

“And if you compare us to other top six clubs, we think it was a big signing with Conor Gallagher. I know the club is very ambitious and the owners are very ambitious and I have no doubt we will see that going forward.”
