Thomas Frank loved the touching tribute Tottenham fans made at St James’ Park

Thomas Frank has praised the travelling Tottenham contingent to St James Park for one particular thing they did during the side’s 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

The Spurs head coach has made some controversial statements about the supporters in the days leading up to Tuesday’s clash.

It all started with Frank saying it was unacceptable for Tottenham fans to mock Guglielmo Vicario during the club’s 2-1 loss to Fulham on Saturday.

Frank doubled down on his comments about Spurs fans ahead of his side’s trip to Newcastle, and the Tottenham faithful were left angered by the Dane’s statements.

Thomas Frank loved seeing Tottenham fans get behind Guglielmo Vicario

The Spurs fans who made the long trip to St James’ Park on Tuesday could be heard chanting Vicario’s name right from the start.

That was music to Frank’s ears, with the Tottenham boss admitting that the travelling contingent’s efforts throughout the game pushed the team on and were crucial in them managing to salvage a point.

Frank said after the 2-2 draw (via Football.London): “I want to speak about us, and the mentality coming back. And a great point away from home, I’m happy with that.

“I think our fans, exceptional, travelling, 3000 up here, the way they supported us throughout the game, singing, we also heard them singing and praising Vic throughout the game. That’s togetherness.”

When asked what it meant to him to hear the fans signing Vicario’s name, the 52-year-old responded: “You could hear them here, and it’s a difficult place to come as away fans and be loud enough so we can hear them. So they put so much effort into it, matched the effort from the team and that togetherness drove us forward, and it gave us a more than well-deserved point.”

Frank will be hoping relationship with the fans is on the mend

According to reports, over recent days, the Tottenham players held a long internal meeting about their worsening relationship with the supporters.

They will hope that their battling display at Newcastle and the reaction of the fans will be the start of that relationship being mended.

However, Frank and his players will be aware that they have to start winning at home, and the atmosphere could turn toxic again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Brentford score first on Saturday.
