Thomas Frank makes Ivan Toney transfer claim amid Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea links

Thomas Frank has broken his silence on the future of rumoured Tottenham target Ivan Toney, stating that he is hopeful that the centre-forward will still be a Brentford player on February 1.

The speculation linking Toney with a move to Spurs has not gone away, with The Sun reporting two weeks ago that the Chelsea hierarchy are convinced they will face competition from the Lilywhites for the 27-year-old in January.

The report claimed that even though Tottenham have played down the idea of signing the England international, the Blues expect their London rivals to vie for the player’s signature.

The competition for Toney’s signature does not end there, with several reports over the last few weeks stating that he is on Arsenal’s radar (Kick via CaughtOffside) while it has also emerged over the last few days that Man Utd are now plotting a move for the 27-year-old (Daily Mail).

Frank is hopeful Ivan Toney will stay at Brentford

Frank has admitted that he would love nothing more than for Toney to remain at Brentford and rediscover the scoring form he showed last season.

However, the Bees boss certainly did not sound defiant or confident, instead saying, he ‘hopes’ that the striker will remain at the Gtech Community Stadium.

When asked about Toney, the Belgian coach told The Standard: “Everyone saw what he did last year. It’s not like he broke a leg or did his ACL, so he’s fit and probably even more ambitious to get success.

“I’m convinced he will be absolutely on it. I don’t want to lose him. I hope, and think, he’ll be a Brentford player on February 1.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Brentford can be notoriously difficult to negotiate with as Spurs found out during talks over David Raya last summer. So, I doubt the West London club would allow Toney to leave in January unless they receive an offer of £80m or more, which is well beyond what Tottenham can offer.
