Thomas Frank reveals gutting injury news on four Tottenham stars, including Kulusevski setback

Thomas Frank has now provided an injury update on the fitness of his Tottenham squad ahead of their FA Cup clash with Aston Villa

Attention now turns to the FA Cup for Tottenham Hotspur following a hectic run of festive Premier League fixtures.

That sequence did not entirely go to plan for Spurs, who managed just one win from their four league outings from the tail end of December into the start of January.

However, with a fresh competition now on the radar, Thomas Frank will be hoping it sparks a response from his players.

Tottenham injury update ahead of Aston Villa FA Cup clash

Tottenham face an in-form Aston Villa side in the first round of the FA Cup, with the visitors looking to hunt down Arsenal in the league, and it does not get much tougher than this.

Frank will now have to navigate the cup tie with a heavily injury-hit squad as Spurs look to make a run in the competition following their early exit from the Carabao Cup.

The Dane is set to be without eight outfield players for the tie and will have to make do with those available at his disposal.

At present, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are unavailable for selection due to their involvement in AFCON, while Destiny Udogie could return after beginning training following the hamstring injury he picked up last month.

However, Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski remain sidelined and unavailable for selection as they continue to manage their respective injuries.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur have all joined the injury list in the past week, with both Bergvall and Bentancur picking up knocks during Spurs’ defeat to Bournemouth.

Ahead of the FA Cup tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Thomas Frank has now provided an update on the fitness of his squad.

Speaking to Football London, the Spurs head coach said: “Lucas is being assessed today. We’ll know more later today with him. Same with Rodri. Rodri is a hamstring injury, looks like a bigger one. We don’t know the extent yet.”

On Mohammed Kudus, he added: “Kudus is a bigger one, to the tendon and quad, and don’t expect him back until after the March international break.

Unfortunately, it appears Kulusevski has also had a setback in his recovery after a recent infection. Frank revealed: “With Dejan Kulusevski, we know it’s a complicated injury. If anyone can come back quicker, it’s Deki. The most important thing is to remove the pain in the knee, and he got an injection 10 days ago, and we’ll know in 3-4 weeks whether that has settled, and then he can get back on the grass.”
