Thomas Frank has heaped praise on Lucas Bergvall after the youngster’s impressive performances in recent weeks, with the Tottenham boss highlighting the midfielder’s growing maturity and energy in the side.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall has been in fine form this season, with the Swedish midfielder grabbing his first goal of the campaign at West Ham United last weekend, before following it up with a standout showing in the Champions League, where his dangerous cross forced the only goal of the tie.
It is not just his direct contributions to goals that have stood out, as Bergvall’s tireless work rate and pressing have caught the eye in recent games, with the teenager showing a willingness to do the dirty work for the team.
Although he has not started every match this season, the Swede has made sure to make the most of his opportunities when handed them, and his manager has now gone public with his admiration for the youngster’s progress.

Thomas Frank praises Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall
Thomas Frank has spoken openly about Lucas Bergvall’s development, praising the midfielder’s confidence, intelligence and boundless energy, while also admitting that the youngster sometimes needs to be reined in.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official channel, Frank said Bergvall has built strongly on last season’s foundations and continues to go from strength to strength.
The Tottenham manager also highlighted how his energy and deep runs are becoming key assets, while his pressing is growing increasingly intelligent.
He said: “I think he had a good season last season. It laid the foundation for this season. He is going from strength to strength and he has that extra confidence.
“He has so much energy where we have to tell him not to run (in certain moments). More of the deep runs and arriving in higher positions are key. He is learning to be more and more clever in the pressure. We need his enthusiasm,”
Why Bergvall is vital for Tottenham’s midfield balance
Indeed, Lucas Bergvall was Tottenham’s Player of the Season last year, with the teenager sweeping three major individual awards at the club, which underlined just how impactful his breakthrough campaign was.
This term, he has shown no sign of slowing down, with underlying numbers proving that Bergvall currently ranks as the best Premier League midfielder across seven key metrics, a remarkable feat for someone still at the beginning of his career.
Frank will, however, need to continue managing his minutes, given the competition for places in Tottenham’s midfield, but the Dane will be more than pleased with Bergvall’s contribution so far, as the Swede has proved himself to be a player who can be trusted in the biggest moments.
