Thomas Frank reveals why he is so excited to sign ‘The Pitbull’ for Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has opened up on why Tottenham pushed so hard to sign Conor Gallagher in the January window.

Tottenham Hotspur are back in Premier League action on Saturday with a league fixture against relegation-threatened West Ham United.

Thomas Frank will be hoping his side can do the double over their London rivals on Saturday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, after securing a 3-0 win over the Hammers in the reverse fixture.

Spurs are currently in 14th place and not too far away from being dragged into a relegation scrap, making a victory particularly important.

Thomas Frank opens up on Tottenham new boy Conor Gallagher

The Tottenham boss is set to receive a boost for both his squad and supporters after the club completed their first signing of the winter window.

Conor Gallagher has completed his Spurs medical and is now fully settled as an official Tottenham player, meaning he could be an option for Frank against the Hammers.

Speaking ahead of the clash, the Dane was asked about Gallagher’s nickname of The Pitbull and what he can bring to Tottenham’s midfield (Football London).

He said: “It’s a great nickname. I think Conor has a lot of good offensive abilities, his ability to arrive in the box, and he’s a clever finishing. His skill set in the final third is good in terms of arriving in the right positions. I spoke to him about the project and the club and what we are aiming for, and all of that suited him.”

Frank added (Tottenham): “I think it is a top signing. I can’t praise Fabio, Johan and Vinai enough. The ownership for doing it and getting it done, getting it over the line. It went quick.

“I think what he brings in terms of ability, first and foremost, he is a very good player, great experience in the Premier League, also in La Liga, captained teams. So that character, that leadership, that experience, and still young, 25, with plenty of development to reach, but coming in at a good level, bringing his pressing abilities, his directness, scoring goals, but also being able to find good positions on the pitch is exactly what we need.”

In Tottenham’s official transfer announcement, Frank also said the following on Conor Gallagher: “Conor is a top midfielder, who we have worked tirelessly to add to our squad. He is still young, so has plenty of room for improvement, but also has huge experience across the Premier League, La Liga and with the England national team.

“Conor has captained teams, so will bring leadership, maturity, character and personality to our dressing room, while his running power, pressing ability and eye for goal will strengthen us in a key area of the pitch. I am excited about working with him every day, and I know the fans will love what he will bring to the team.”

Thomas Frank must deliver a result with or without Gallagher

Even if Gallagher does not start from the off, Frank should still be able to put out a strong enough side to cause West Ham problems.

Pressure from supporters has increased in recent weeks, making it vital for Frank to deliver a performance as well as a result at the weekend.

Should Gallagher miss out on Saturday, the new Tottenham signing will not be able to feature in the UEFA Champions League when Tottenham return to action on Tuesday and will have to wait until next weekend for a possible start.
