Thomas Frank shares honest verdict on Lucas Bergvall’s ceiling at Tottenham

Thomas Frank has been quick to praise Lucas Bergvall’s potential at Tottenham, with the teenager already making his mark in midfield and showing flashes of why he is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.

Thomas Frank arrived at Tottenham Hotspur with a reputation for nurturing young players, having played a key role in the development of Ollie Watkins and Bryan Mbeumo during his time at Brentford.

At Spurs, there is no shortage of youthful talent. Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr are three midfielders who have all stepped up under Frank, offering energy and technical ability in a side that is undergoing an exciting transition.

Each of them has started life under the new manager impressively, but Bergvall has already stood out, scoring his first Premier League goal against West Ham and providing an assist in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster Rovers.

Thomas Frank praises Lucas Bergvall’s ceiling at Tottenham

There can be no question that Lucas Bergvall is in fine form, and Thomas Frank has now spoken about the midfielder’s ceiling at Tottenham.

The Dane was keen to underline how highly he rates the youngster and what he believes Bergvall can add to his game moving forward.

Speaking to football.london, The Tottenham boss explained: “Hopefully as high as possible. My finest job with the coaches is to maximise potential and that is my most important task.

“With Lucas he is in a really good flow right now. Really pleased with him and he is adding more to his game like running into the box.”

Bergvall’s role in Tottenham midfield

Tottenham will no doubt be delighted to have a midfielder like Bergvall in their side, someone who not only has excellent technical ability but is also a willing runner who covers ground with intensity.

Frank’s words highlighted his late runs into the box, which is a valuable quality in midfield, yet what also stands out is his pressing ability and the hunger with which he closes opponents down.

In fact, it was revealed recently that no midfielder makes more runs into the box or shows greater acceleration per ninety minutes than Bergvall, who also leads in five other metrics.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are both sidelined, but because of the form shown by players like Bergvall, their absence has not been felt as severely as it might have been.
