Thomas Frank urges Tottenham transfer targets to see through the noise in January

Thomas Frank has now offered an update on where Tottenham Hotspur stand in the January transfer window amid some negative noise in N17.

Thomas Frank’s latest injury update on his Tottenham Hotspur squad was anything but positive, with several players still some distance away from returning to action.

Mohammed Kudus could be sidelined until March. Dejan Kulusevski has suffered another setback that is likely to extend his spell on the sidelines.

Lucas Bergvall is set to be assessed, while Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury does not look encouraging.

With the squad looking increasingly stretched, the need for Tottenham to become active in the transfer market has only intensified.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank outlines winter transfer plans

Speaking to football.london, Thomas Frank addressed Tottenham’s approach to the January transfer window and the work being done behind the scenes to strengthen the squad.

The Spurs head coach explained the challenges of the winter market while stressing the importance of balancing short-term needs with long-term planning.

He said: “We are working very, very, very hard to see if we can improve the squad. Johan, Fabio, Vinai, everyone in and around the club, the recruitment department, is doing that. January is a very, very, very difficult window.

“It is very important to get short-term success and long-term success. Everything is linked. So the players we are bringing in, it is because we think they can improve the squad and the team.”

On trying to sign new players amid the toxic noise around Tottenham, Frank added: “I think, especially in football, the most important thing is to keep the noise out. Then you can see there’s this situation with the post from Cuti. There could be others where it’s maybe not that positive or a lot of people speaking.

“When we want to attract players, we need to tell our, as close to possible, unbiased story and a good story about this fantastic, beautiful club and why you should come to the club. I’m pretty sure that clever players and agents can look through if there’s a little bit of noise.

“I think it’s very important to stress that even though there’s noise, the club is very aligned. Johan, Vinai and I are very aligned. Ownership is very aligned. We know it’s a tough spell that we need to get through.”

Spurs fans are growing tired of the familiar January narrative

It feels like a familiar story for Tottenham supporters, once again being told that the winter window is difficult to navigate.

That should not be an excuse for a club of Spurs’ stature, particularly one that has had since the summer deadline day to prepare for this period.

The last winter window proved problematic, and the same issues appear to be resurfacing, despite the club having two sporting directors and financial reserves of £130 million following a £100 million injection and the sale of Brennan Johnson, a move that should have been planned with a replacement already lined up.
