Thomas Frank’s bizarre Arsenal obsession may have helped seal Tottenham fate

Thomas Frank’s antics ahead of the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium in November may have contributed to his Tottenham demise.

In the previous instances when managers have been sacked at Spurs, there has usually been a divided response from the Tottenham fan base, but that is not the case this time.

The Tottenham fans are all relieved that Frank’s spell at the club is finally over, with many of them feeling that the decision should have been made a long time ago.

Frank leaves Spurs with the worst record of any permanent manager of a ‘big six’ club in Premier League history, with his eight-month spell proving nothing short of disastrous for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham players were annoyed by what Thomas Frank did ahead of North London Derby

Tottenham delivered a shockingly passive performance at the Emirates back in November as they fell to a 4-1 defeat, and a new report has shed light on what Frank did before the game.

According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, the Dane regularly referenced the strengths of Tottenham’s rivals in the build-up to the game.

In fact, one source claims that some Spurs players were sick of hearing from Frank about just how good Arsenal were ahead of the derby.

The source is quoted as saying about Frank: “He was constantly going on to the players about Arsenal, and they quickly got sick of it. Even before and after the game at the Emirates, he was telling them how good Arsenal were. The feeling among some was very much ‘just shut up about Arsenal’.”

Spurs players were just as dismayed as fans to see Frank holding an Arsenal cup

Frank was pictured drinking from an Arsenal cup ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Brentford in January.

While that may have been an honest mistake from the Dane, the optics were not ideal, with Spurs fans not taking kindly to the mistake.

Law has now revealed in his article that the Tottenham players were just as dismayed as the supporters to see pictures of the 52-year-old holding a Gunners coffee cup.

He claims that the social media pictures poking fun at Frank as a big Arsenal supporter were not only shared among the fans, but also by some players and members of staff at Hotspur Way.
