Thomas Tuchel claims Chelsea have ‘advantage’ over Spurs this weekend

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel believes his side have ‘an advantage’ over Tottenham after having an extra two days to prepare for the clash this weekend.

Spurs meet the Blues at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with both London clubs faring differently on the European stage in midweek.

Visitors Chelsea were in Champions League action on Tuesday and edged past Zenit 1-0 with Romelu Lukaku netting the decider.

As for Spurs, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side earned an unconvincing 2-2 draw at Rennes on Thursday in the Europa Conference League, which saw the likes of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura add to the growing list of injuries in North London.

Sunday’s London derby in N17 comes with heavy spenders Chelsea looking ever-dangerous and Spurs struggling to build on what was a positive start to the season.

Blues boss Tuchel believes his side are already in the driving seat for this weekend’s clash, as he has had an extra couple of days to hone his squad’s preparation.

When asked about whether the schedule is beneficial to Chelsea, he told football.london (1:21pm, September 17, 2021): “It’s good. I like it. We had a recovery day yesterday and now have two training sessions. It is good for us, it is an advantage.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is very little doubt that Chelsea are the favourites heading into the game on Sunday, with recent performances and injuries starting to overwhelm Spurs slightly.

But, as with plenty of London derbies before, it’s all up to what happens on the day and anything can happen.
