Thomas Tuchel expects key Chelsea man to be fit for Spurs clash

Chelsea have seemingly been handed a boost ahead of their London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with Thomas Tuchel confirming that he expects N’Golo Kante to be available for the match.

The optimism surrounding Spurs after their brilliant start to the season has all but faded on the back of their humiliating 3-0 loss at Crystal Palace last week.

Tottenham were missing several of their key players due to injury at Selhurst Park and the likes of Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn and Eric Dier are doubts for the clash against the Blues as well.

Chelsea had an injury concern of their own in Kante, who missed their 1-0 win against Zenit St Peterborough on Tuesday with a groin injury.

However, Tuchel has now confirmed that the French international was rested as a precaution against the Russian side and that he is expected to be fit for the trip to North London on Sunday.

When asked about Kante, the Chelsea boss said (via The Metro): “We decided to give him another load tomorrow in training then he will have a day off with all of us then he will re-join team training on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to be absolutely fit and ready for Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is not good news for Spurs as I expect Chelsea’s midfield of Kante, Kovacic and Mount to run the game. We will likely have to play on the counter-attack and I fear things could get ugly if Chelsea score first.
