Opinion: Three players who performed well against Olympiacos

Tottenham Hotspur were unable to follow up on their Champions League Final appearance last year with a win in their opening match of the new campaign tonight.

Spurs faced a tough trip away to Olympiacos in Greece, and despite going 2-0 up in the first half, they gave away the lead to draw 2-2.

A point on the opening night is not the worst thing in the world, but it should have been so much better for the men in blue this evening.

Let’s take a look at three players who did themselves proud –

Harry Winks –

My man of the match. In a team of players who looked to be putting in far from maximum effort, Winks ran non-stop for the full 90 minutes. He was even flying into challenges right at the death. The young England man used the ball well and passed positively, but was let down by those in front of him who failed to use the possession.

Harry Kane –

Not his best performance in the world, but Kane looked to be a constant threat. He put away his penalty nicely and went on a couple of trademark runs in the second half. To be honest, if Lamela and Alli had squared the ball as they should have done, we could have been talking about a Kane hat-trick.

Lucas Moura –

Moura rarely gets handed a start in a Tottenham shirt these days, but he took this one by the scruff of the neck in the first half. Lucas offered pace in behind and a bit of quality at the end of the move. His goal was sensational and it could end up making all the difference come the end of the group. Shame he tired in the second 45.
