Tottenham Hotspur could secure their status in the Premier League before they host Everton in their final league game of the season.

Spurs fans find themselves in an extremely unfamiliar position, with their beloved club at the risk of being relegated for the first time in nearly 50 years heading into the final two league games of the season.

The Lilywhites still have their fate in their own hands as they have a two-point lead over 18th-placed West Ham.

All eyes will be on St James’ Park on Sunday, with the Hammers needing a win to leapfrog Spurs ahead of their London derby at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Scenarios that will keep Tottenham up and relegate West Ham by Tuesday

Roberto De Zerbi‘s men will want to avoid going into their final league match with the threat of relegation still hanging over their necks, as that would really turn up the pressure on the Lilywhites, who have only won two league matches at home last season.

Here are the three scenarios that would ensure that West Ham’s relegation is sealed by Tuesday:

Scenario 1: If West Ham lose against Newcastle and Tottenham beat Chelsea, the Lilywhites will have an unassailable five-point lead over their rivals..

Scenario 2: Spurs would also be guaranteed safety if West Ham draw at St James’ Park and they win at Stamford Bridge.

Scenario 3: A loss for the Hammers against Newcastle and a draw for Tottenham at Chelsea would put the Lilywhites three points ahead of Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

While the third scenario would not mathematically assure Spurs of safety, it would take a huge swing in goal difference in the final day of the season for the Lilywhites to go down, with De Zerbi’s men having an 11-goal advantage.

West Ham’s result against Newcastle could decide Spurs’ fate

Chelsea will love nothing more than to send Spurs down, and one would expect their fans and the players to be up for the London derby.

The pressure on De Zerbi’s men would be immense if they find themselves in the Premier League relegation zone as they walk out at Stamford Bridge.

The clash at St James’ Park could thus go a long way towards deciding who goes down, and Spurs fans will be hoping that Newcastle are motivated to put on a show for their fans in their final home game of the season.
