Three Spurs stars nominated for Champions League Team of the Year

Tottenham’s run to the final of the Champions League last season will live long in the memories of Spurs fans. While the run ended in disappointment with a defeat to Liverpool in the final, the journey to Madrid was nothing short of sensational.

While the players might have ended the competition without a winners medal, some Spurs stars now have the distinction of being named among the nominees for the Champions League team of the year.

Tottenham trio Jan Vertonghen, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are all part of the list of nominees announced by UEFA.

Kane’s inclusion in that list is quite impressive considering he missed the first leg against Dortmund, the second leg against Man City as well as both legs against Ajax last season due to injuries. The England captain still managed to five goals in last season’s competition and has started off this campaign in great form.

Son was arguably the stand out player in Tottenham’s run to the final, getting some crucial goals in Kane’s absence.

Vertonghen, meanwhile, filled in at left-back on a couple of occasions in the competition, with his performance in the first leg against Dortmund, in particular, being up there with the best he’s produced in a Spurs shirt.

Both Son Heung-min and Harry Kane have a realistic chance of making the cut given their performances in the competition last season as well as their displays so far in this season’s campaign. However, given the stellar names in that list, either player will do well to make the final 11.
