Three Spurs stars who stood out as great performers today against Man City

Tottenham Hotspur somehow managed to survive an onslaught of Man City attempts at goal this evening, while only creating a few of their own.

Despite this, the final scoreline reads 2-2, thanks very much to a late VAR call that ruled out a stoppage-time Man City winner. Sound familiar?

While Tottenham were extremely far from their best today, let’s look at three players who stood out in the win.

Lucas Moura –

For the second time this season, it was a man from the bench who had an instant impact on the game for Spurs. Lucas Moura was literally on the pitch for a matter of 30 seconds before he rose highest at a corner and nodded home. He was also a constant source of running, driving, challenging, carrying, and pressing for a tired Spurs XI. Without this man, Pochettino’s team simply do not come away with a point.

Danny Rose –

In a game in which Tottenham defended pretty woefully, Danny Rose stood up to the vast majority of the challenges that came his way. The left-back was naturally tough in his own tackles, confident and comfortable on the ball, and held up relatively well considering he was left two on one with Walker and De Bruyne more often than not. The centre-mids did not do enough to cover or help the full-backs today for me. While he wasn’t perfect, I just love the non-nonsense way Rose goes about his business.

Christian Eriksen –

Although Eriksen shifted the ball nicely at times, I am highlighting him more for his sheer effort and defensive work today. As always, the Great Dane seemed to run far further than most out there, defending from the front and shutting down a number of Man City channels of attack. The work this man gets through off the ball is insane. Definitely no problem with a lack of effort.

Special mention to VAR. Superb today.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. You are absolutely having a laugh aren’t you? Lamela scored our first goal and assisted the second and doesn’t get a mention. Eriksen, despite changing the game last week, was largely anonymous today. Lamela proving to be a big game player yet again, and is a real problem for City yet again.

Lets be serious though, if not for Lamela that was a 2-0 loss today. Theres enough idiots that slate Lamela when he plays badly but today was man of the match.
