Tim Sherwood claims Spurs star was ‘non-existent’ against Everton – Criticises two others

Tim Sherwood admitted that he was far from impressed with Harry Kane’s performance in Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Everton on Sunday.

Antonio Conte stuck with the same eleven he fielded against Vitesse for his first Premier League game as Spurs boss at Goodison Park.

The North London club seemed in control of the game for the majority of the first half but spurned a couple of chances to take the lead.

The second half was a more topsy-turvey affair, with the home side putting Conte’s men under pressure late on.

While Kane did create one of Spurs’ best chances of the game by picking out Sergio Reguilon with a great cross in the first half, the striker still looked lacking in sharpness and his decision making in the final third let him down on a few occasions.

While Sherwood backed Conte to get the best out of the England captain, he insisted that the striker was ‘non-existent’ against the Toffees.

The former Spurs midfielder told Premier League Productions (07/11/21 at 7:25 pm): “I think Harry Kane is still non-existent really in the game. Lucas Moura didn’t affect it, nor did Son.

“They are their three best players and he’s going to have to get the best out of them to push your way up the league.

“It’s far too early to criticise Antonio Conte. I am sure he’s going to get the best out of them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane’s role was much clearer yesterday than it was under Nuno this season and I do not think he was as bad as some fans and pundits are making out.

However, the striker clearly seems to have lost the intensity he had in his game under the early years of Pochettino and evidently looks to conserve energy off-the-ball these days.

That is certainly not how Conte likes his forwards to play and I wonder if there is potential for friction between the pair over the coming months.
